How to use mobile devices safely

Mobile banking is one of the electronic channels for accessing your account using, as the name suggests, mobile devices (mobile phones/smartphones or tablets). Access is possible via mobile operator networks or WiFi networks after downloading the banking application. Mobile banking is becoming increasingly popular with customers who are open to innovation and value the freedom to manage their bank account from anywhere in the world, at any time.

As technology advances, the mobile phone has become functionally similar to the traditional computer and has even gained an advantage in terms of convenience, versatility and being always at hand.

One of the critical factors for the secure use of online banking is the adequate security of the user's computer. Similarly, in mobile banking, it is equally important to meet the security requirements for securing the mobile device and to follow safe practices when using it.

BNP Paribas Bank cares about the security of its clients' payment cards and the transactions they carry out. Here are some rules to help you minimise the risk of unauthorised use of your cards.

When using mobile devices, remember

  • that once connected to the Internet, your mobile devices become the same vulnerable part of the global network as a traditional computer.
  • Keep the passwords you use confidential and never log in to an application if the public can see the information you enter on your device screen.
  • Use available security: screen lock, PIN, fingerprint or other biometric methods.
  • Only download applications from authorised stores and trusted websites. Never install applications from unknown sources. If someone asks you to do so, it may be an attempt to install malware on your phone.
  • Make sure your mobile devices have antivirus protection, legitimate software and up-to-date updates.
  • Remember that using public wireless networks puts your confidential data at risk. Use trusted wireless networks and encrypted Internet access via VPN.
  • Don't let others connect to your device without your knowledge - turn Bluetooth on only when you need it.
  • If you share the Internet from your device, require a password before connecting.

Please note that BNP Paribas Bank will never:

  • send links in SMS messages to download applications for mobile devices, ,
  • send links in SMS messages to download applications for mobile devices,
  • ask you for verification data such as passwords or logins,
  • ask you to enable or disable the 'Allow installation of applications from sources other than the Play store' option (for Android).

If your phone is lost or stolen:

  • change your login details for all banking services,
  • you can lock the mobile apps/device yourself,
  • after logging in to online banking you can use the option to remotely delete data from your phone,
  • contact the Bank's call centre (helpline open 24/7, call costs according to operator rate): 500 990 500 , +48 22 134 00 00,
