The bank for a changing world

The Bank cares about the security of its customers' payment cards and the transactions they make. Here are some rules to help you minimise the risk of unauthorised card use.

KNOW THE 10 RULES FOR THE SAFE USE OF PAYMENT CARDS

1. REMEMBER the PIN code  - do not write it down anywhere and do not give it to anyone.

2. CHECK, that your card package has arrived intact. If you suspect that the mail has been opened, contact the Call Centre at: 500 990 500 or 22 134 00 00 (call cost according to operator's tariff) - for your security we will issue you with a new card.

3. MONITOR the correctness of your card charges on your monthly statements or in online/mobile banking. In case of discrepancies, contact the Call Centre at: 500 990 500 or 22 134 00 00 (call cost according to operator's tariff) - we will explain the discrepancy and, if necessary, cancel the card.

4. REMEMEBER to update your contact details in the bank's database - this will allow us to contact you at any time to confirm the transaction made with your card.

5. KEEP your card number and CVV2 or CVC2 code (the three digits on the back of the card) safe from unauthorised access.

6. REMEMEBER, that the bank never calls or emails you to ask for your PIN or payment card numbers. When you receive such a message, do not reply and immediately notify the bank of the incident.

7. AVOID that the bank never calls or emails you to ask for your PIN or payment card numbers. When you receive such a message, do not reply and immediately notify the bank of the incident.

8. NEVER enter your PIN for online transactions. The PIN is only required for physical card payments.

9. MAKE online transactions from computers to which you have exclusive access or which are used by a small circle of trusted people.

10. HOLD the ATM or terminal (data reader) keypad in your hand when entering the PIN code so that bystanders cannot read the digits you are entering. Do not use ATMs that look suspicious (with an altered keypad or overlay in place of a card slot) and report any irregularities to your bank.

Attention! Phishing!

Beware of phishing Phishing - what is it?

It is one of the most common ways of phishing for personal information, online banking login details, bank mobile app activation details and full payment card details. Most card phishing scams involve:

  • 'on the buyer' on popular sales sites (e.g. OLX, Vinted);
  • 'for a surcharge on a parcel or bill for electricity, gas, etc.;
  • 'for expiring subscriptions' to popular streaming services (e.g. NETFLIX, HBO).

The information obtained through the above methods allows fraudsters to activate the bank's mobile app or connect the card to a wallet (e.g. Apple Pay, Google Pay) and make transactions using the card details. Remember never to enter card details and authorisation codes received from your bank via SMS in the above situations!

Payment card security

  • We maintain 24-hour monitoring to ensure that all transactions are under control and that we are able to combat fraud.
  • EMV technology - chip on a card - is an embedded microprocessor that stores card data and a list of associated services.
  • BNP Paribas Bank cardholders can monitor the status and transactions of their card account 24 hours a day, from anywhere: by phone and via the Internet.
  • In addition, we offer the 3D Secure service - advanced security for card payments on the Internet. It consists of additional verification of the cardholder by entering a code from an SMS or confirming the transaction in the bank's mobile application.

Contactless card security

Thanks to the built-in security mechanism, the card can only be activated by a signal from the terminal. IMPORTANT: The card can only be loaded once per transaction.

Transactions over PLN 100 at terminals in Poland require a PIN. Some lower value transactions may also require PIN confirmation for security reasons.

In some countries, high value contactless payments cannot be made. Signatures may be required at some terminals (but this is very rare).

The card you want to pay with must be taken out of your wallet and held close to the reader.

In proximity mode, it is impossible for the terminal to read/record information such as the cardholder's name or the three-digit code on the back of the card, which could be used for unauthorised online transactions.

Please note that payment card transactions are subject to complaints. The complaint procedure is carried out by the payment organisations (VISA/Mastercard) called chargeback - details can be found here: https://www.bnpparibas.pl/klienci-indywidualni/karty/chargeback
